Life Insurance Choices
As medical advances, nutritional awareness, smoking
cessation programs and prescription drug discoveries have taken hold, we
are living much longer. This has decreased the rates on life insurance
dramatically over the last 10 years. Changes in the taxes and estate tax
law have inspired insurance companies to come up with new and inventive
ways to write life insurance.
For Example:
- It is now commonplace for all types of policies to carry some
type of critical illness plan. If you should become terminal (12
month or less to live) you can now get up to half the face value of
your policy in cash. You may need it for medical expenses of just to
take a world cruise. But you do not have to die to collect anymore.
- Many life insurance plans can be used for long term care. If you should
need Assisted Living or Nursing Home care you can use your death
benefit for that purpose. Again, you do not need to die to collect.
- Mortgage Protection Plans not only provide a death benefit but
can pay your mortgage during a time of disability.
- Buy/Sell Agreements between business partners supported in part
by life insurance can insure continued business stability in the
event of an untimely death by one of the principles.
- Legacy plans are important to many people. They may want to
leave money to their Children, Grandchildren, Churches, Charities or
Universities. A single premium plan can work wonders. For example, a
55 year old male in good health could leave $150,000 tax free gift
to the institution of his choice for an approximate $50,000 premium.
A 75 year old in reasonable health could leave $350,000 tax free
gift for an approximate $250,000 premium.
- For large estates with potentially heavy tax burdens, Life
insurance can leave tax free gifts to your heirs much larger than
the taxed amounts may be. It can also pay the tax man on the balance
of your estate.
- And if you just want to make sure your kids go to college, term
rates have never been lower.
